Teardown of the defunct Cold Press Juicer “Juicero”
The Juicero. Once hyped as a revolutionary cold press juicer, became infamous when it was revealed that its expensive juice packs could be squeezed by hand just as effectively.
Tech YouTuber AvE took the machine apart to uncover what was inside this $400 device (Not including the monthly subscription. Yes you heard that right).
His teardown exposes a complex assembly of high-end components including: a robust power supply, heavy-duty motor, and a hilariously over-engineered designed press mechanism—all seemingly for a product that ultimately did little more than apply some force to a juice pouch.
One of the most striking revelations from the teardown was the sheer build quality of the Juicero. AvE noted that the internal components, were far more robust than necessary for its intended purpose (to re-iterate: pressing juice packs). It raises questions about whether Juicero was initially intended for a broader application, or if it was simply an example of Silicon Valley excess.
Either way, this teardown remains a fascinating look at how a well-funded startup can invest millions into engineering a product that nobody really needed.
