NakeyJakey: Crappy Voice Acting

We have yet another amazing video essay by YouTuber NakeyJakey. He walks us through some of the worst (and funniest) examples of voice acting in video game history, all while making us question how these performances ever made it into the final product.

Some truly iconic disasters NakeyJakey highlights include: the infamous “Jill sandwich” line in Resident Evil, to the bizarrely stilted dialogue of Shenmue.

He digs into why these performances feel so off. Sometimes it’s a lack of proper direction, other times there are moments where it seems like the voice actor just walked in, read the script cold, almost as if reading from a grocery list, and left without a second take.

It’s a reminder of how far the industry has come in prioritizing quality voice work—though, as Jakey hilariously points out, we still get our fair share of stinkers today.
